Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

The best time is April to November. The rainy season (December–February) brings heavy rainfall in Ranomafana and can make some tracks difficult. The dry season offers ideal conditions for hiking in Isalo and lemur spotting. July–August: slightly cool on the Highlands, bring a warm layer.

This tour offers several encounters with different species: the Ring-tailed Lemur (easily spotted at Anja Reserve), the Golden Bamboo Lemur and the Red-fronted Lemur at Ranomafana, and during the Night Walk: mouse lemurs and endemic chameleons. Lemur diversity is one of the greatest strengths of this itinerary.

Ranomafana’s trails are moderately demanding: paths can be muddy and slippery in the rainforest, with some elevation changes. Good walking fitness is sufficient — no specialist equipment needed. The expert tracker guides the group and adjusts the pace. Closed hiking shoes are essential.

The Natural Pool is a turquoise, crystal-clear natural basin carved into the sandstone of Isalo’s canyon, fed by a waterfall. It is reached after a guided hike through the park’s canyons. Swimming is allowed and recommended — wear a swimsuit under your hiking clothes.

Reniala reserve is home to centuries-old bottle baobabs and rare endemic birds of the Deep South. Outside the reserve, Ifaty offers white-sand beaches, snorkelling on the coral reef just metres from shore, and pirogue outings with the Vezo people. Water activities are at the traveller’s own expense and are not included in the price.

This tour is suitable for families with children aged 8–10 and over. The easily accessible lemurs at Anja Reserve and Isalo’s Natural Pool are particular highlights for kids. Hikes can be adapted to the group’s pace. For younger children, we recommend the Nosy Be Tour.

Yes. The itinerary is fully flexible: add one or two nights in Isalo, extend your stay in Ifaty, or include additional sites (Lake Tritriva, Zombitse forest). You can also combine it with the Grand West 14-Day Tour for a complete Madagascar circuit. Free quote within 24h at contact@lemursafari.com.
