Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

The best period is April to December. The rainy season (January–March) makes the tracks to Bekopaka very difficult or impassable, and river ferry crossings can be cancelled. The dry season (April–November) is ideal for 4×4 tracks, river ferries and trekking in the Tsingy.

Exploration of the Grand Tsingy is done with provided safety harnesses and certified local guides. The paths are marked and well maintained. The activity requires good physical fitness and comfort at heights, but no technical climbing skills. Not recommended for people with severe vertigo.

The tracks between Morondava and Bekopaka are laterite and require a 4×4 off-road vehicle. From May to November they are generally passable. During the rainy season (December–April), some sections may be cut off by flooding. This is the main reason the tour is recommended from April to December.

The guided night walk in the Kirindy reserve allows you to observe nocturnal species of the dry forest: the mouse lemur (world’s smallest lemur) and the Fossa (Cryptoprocta ferox), Madagascar’s largest predator. Observation is by torchlight in the darkness of the forest — a rare and unforgettable experience.

This tour is not recommended for children under 12 years old due to the long 4×4 track days and the harnesses required for the Grand Tsingy. From 12–14 years with good physical fitness, the tour is possible. For families with young children, we recommend the Nosy Be 5-Day Tour or the East Madagascar Tour 7 Days.

Yes. Adjustable duration (10 to 15 days), modular stages, accommodation from comfort to prestige. Possible to combine with other regions of Madagascar. Write to us at contact@lemursafari.com for a free quote within 24 hours.

Consult your doctor before departure. Generally recommended: hepatitis A and B, typhoid, tetanus. Anti-malarial treatment strongly advised for western Madagascar (high endemic zone). Powerful insect repellent is essential, particularly in the Kirindy forest and near rivers.
